Mercedes-Benz van leasing customers have finally got what they wanted as Mercedes-Benz reveal their light van contender, the Citan.

Based on the Renault Kangoo, the Citan, a contraction of ‘City’ and ‘Titan’, is expected to go on sale late 2012 / early 2013.

It’s been reported the Citan will not only look like a Merc, but drive like a Merc, with production taking place at Renault’s Maubeuge plant in northern France, Mercedes will have their own quality control division at the end of the production line.  The Citan will also be driven by the same versions of the Kangoo 1.5 dCi engine, and with the Kangoo ZE, there is absolutely no reason why we couldn’t see a Citan E-Cell.

Also confirmed, there will be a choice of two wheelbases, three body lengths and three configurations; van, crew cab and fully glazed people-carrier.

This is all the information we currently have on the Citan, as soon as we know more throughout this lengthy launch campaign, we’ll report back to you.
